What is the best method of SEO?

What is the best practice when it comes to search engine optimisation? For a customer seeking advice on the best method to market the business website on the internet it must be little short of a nightmare! Wave after wave of overwhelming and often unintelligible information, with all the so-called experts contradicting each other with often unethical SEO methods. Some guarantee page 1 of Google and some will advocate a link building campaign. Some will offer the confused businessman hundreds of pre-prepared links and make out they are doing the businessman a huge favour by including their websites URL in the lists, which will mean, according to the so-called SEO “professional”, your website will have everyone linking to the lists of URL’s as recorded backlinks to your site, something, they will argue, that will greatly improve your Google Page Rank, or PR is the term the “professional” will likely use. They will also charge you a significant monthly fee for their "expert" service!

Page Rank & Backlinks

Okay, now you know how good I am, let's bomb the PR and backlink myth to start. I’ll offer you an example and I want you to research the results yourself so you can be sure I’m not linking to pre-prepared pages to convince you. Search the phrase Hollywood film stars in Google and see where you find the website www.movie-greats.co.uk. Then I want you to go to www.googlepagerankchecker.com and run the URL there. You will find the website is a PR3 with backlinks 0. On page 1 of Google under that same search phrase you will find the website www.hollywood.com and when you run that URL through the page rank checker you will see it has a page rank of 7 with 2,590 backlinks, so if the more backlinks equal higher page rank and higher page rank equals higher ranking in the Google free listing index, how come my website is above Hollywood.com? How come my website is on page 1 of Google’s free index at all? And the results I have stated are global. I have had the searches confirmed via a computer in the USA. Try the same experiment with the search phrase millionaire dating agency. This is a good generic phrase that is very heavily competed for by professional IT marketing gurus out to make their fortune selling people the partner of a lifetime! At the top of Google you will find www.singlemillionaires.co.uk. That is my website and it proudly has a PR of 0. If the people purporting that backlinks and a high PR figure is the most important criteria for getting your website to the top of Google, how can that be? The fact is they are completely wrong and to invest your money in their services is to throw that money away. Google's AdWords

So what about an AdWords campaign? Well, if you have a website that is "search engine unfriendly" such as a Joomla site, WordPress or many content management system sites available for free on the internet, your best option will be an AdWords campaign. AdWords will give your site great visibility on phrases you target. The costs are ongoing as you will need to bid upon the phrases you target and every click will cost you that bid. We are happy to organise and manage an AdWords campaign for you. The cost of our service is an hourly charge and the amount of time we commit is decided upon the nature of the campaign. Call us to discuss your requirements. You set the dudget and we will inform you of the best way to go forward dependent upon your budget.

Organic SEO

Okay, so we find ourselves at my own specialization, organic SEO. Here I am the “expert”, but an “expert” at what? Good old fashioned common sense, that is what. Organic SEO is sometimes referred to as Natural SEO. Organic SEO is all about the free, I’ll repeat that, “FREE” listing index of all the major search engines. An organic SEO will target a choice key phrase or key phrases. A choice key phrase is the words or sentence you would use were you to search for your product or services on any major search engine, although I always target Google as Google will provide 80% of your search engine traffic.

The problem is, of course, all your direct competitors want to be on top of Google with the same choice key phrases and the other drawback with organic SEO is you’ll require a little patience. Websites don’t just pop into the top tier of Google’s free listing index, you’ll have to soak through their database and that will take time. If you have a new domain name you’ll have to wait a fairly long time as there is an age filter in Google’s algorithm that is highly prioritized. But to organically optimise your website is an important investment in the long term future of your online business and the investment will reward you handsomely.
